What is RoHS?
The latest Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2011/65/EU, as passed on July 1, 2011, is restricting the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment manufactured and/or sold within the EU. This Directive requires that all Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) sold within the EU be within the outlined safe limits (0.1% or 1000ppm) of Lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), hexavalent chromium (Cr+6), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenly ethers (PBDE), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) and (0.01% or 100ppm) of Cadmium (Cd).
The goal of this Directive is to protect human health, animal health and the environment from the risks associated with these substances.
